On 19th August the Concerto for Sitar and Indian Cello 'Song of Water Celebrated its World Premiere in Rio de Janeiro with the National symphony Orchestra of Brazil. The music was received with  a 10 minute standing ovation by the audience. For the Rio Cello Festival the Rao Trio performed as well.

Donemus Publications will be the exclusive publisher of all of Saskia's compositions. The Songs of Water score will be avialable soon.

Saskia wins 'Driver of Change award in Mumbai by India Today group and the Mahindra group.

The prestigious award was given for the impact her work as an artist, a composer and creator of the Sangeet4All music curriculum has made to the lives of her audience and students.  She performed to a captivated audience.

Saskia Rao and Ruth Philips: from Bach to Bhupali

'Bhoop for two' is a composition by Saskia Rao for Indian cello and baroque cello and is a playful journey through different folk traditions. Bhoop for Two is a part of the unique program 'from Bach to Bhupali, conceived by Saskia Rao and Ruth Philips. 'From Bach to Bhupali' features two unique artists who have pioneered new playing styles and techniques for the cello. This concert was in a beautiful church in Vaison la Romaine. Dutch cellist and composer Saskia Rao de Haas is a pioneer in the world of music. She introduced and created a new instrument, the Indian cello. She performs Indian classical music on the cello as a soloist and collaborating with musicians across genres. Her programme together with sitarist Pt Shubhendra Rao was described by the New York Times as ‘movingly meditative’. Master flutist and her Guru Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia said about Saskia that ‘she has been taught by God and everyone should listen to her music’. She lives in New Delhi with her husband, Pt Shubhendra Rao and son, Ishaan. www.saskiarao.com After leaving the Yehudi Menuhin School, Ruth Philips studied in Germany with Johannes Goritzki. At the age of nineteen, she started playing with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe with whom she toured the world for eight years under such musicians as Claudio Abbado, Andras Schiff and Nikolaus Harnoncourt. Later she went to New York to study with Timothy Eddy where she received her Masters degree. She played with Glyndebourne Touring opera for twelve years before coming to live in France where she has played with the Musiciens du Louvre and the Concert d’Astrée and where she is co- principal of Opera Fuoco. Influenced by her experience in mindfulness, yoga and meditation, Ruth is founder of The Breathing Bow, a holistic approach to cello playing that is becoming known all over the world. Ruth wrote a memoir, which was shortlisted by the Guardian for the woman’s memoir prize. She lives in Bedoin with her husband, the painter Julian Merrow Smith, and their son Louis. www.thebreathingbow.com

A touching rendering by Saskia Rao de Haas on Indian cello and Ruth Philips on baroque cello. Parideva is a part of the unique program 'from Bach to Bhupali, conceived by Saskia Rao and Ruth Philips.
