BACKGROUND
Pandit Shubhendra Rao (protégé of Sitar Maestro Ravi Shankar), and Maestro Saskia Rao-de Haas (Indian cellist and disciple of Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia) have collaborated with orchestras and artists around the world and are active in promoting Indian music and culture, performing classical orchestral works by Ravi Shankar with many leading orchestras and have performed at prestigious venues and music festivals such as John F. Kennedy Centre for Performing Arts, Prince William Network, Sydney Opera House, Salzburg International Music festival, National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing, National Arts Festival in South Africa, BRICS Summit in China, Théâtre de la Ville in Paris to name a few
Following the Indian premiere of ‘Song of Water’ at the National Gallery of Modern Arts, New Delhi in November 2022, and international premiere of the orchestral composition at the Municipal Theatre in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, with the Orquestra Sinfonica Brasileira on 19th August 2024 under Maestro Stefan Geiger, they look forward to bringing this unique composition to other orchestras across the world.
The score presents a wonderful application of Indian Ragas to orchestral composition that is accessible to players and listeners.
